The crash happened in Putnam County on Friday, May 31 around 2:10 p.m., when a motorcycle struck a small bus on Route 301 in Carmel west of Gipsy Trail Road, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

An investigation into the crash revealed a motorcycle driven by New Jersey resident Peter Leist of the Morris County township of Denville, age 62, had been traveling west on Route 301 just before the crash. Leist's motorcycle was struck head-on by a small bus after crossing the double yellow lines to pass a few vehicles, the Sheriff's Office said.

Leist was later pronounced dead at the scene. Route 301 was closed for around three hours on Friday as authorities conducted their investigation into the incident.

No criminal charges in connection to the crash have been announced.
